Having followed Rob Oates’ remarkable work from afar for several years, I felt that 2025 was the perfect moment to join the Arbtech team and contribute to their mission.
What do you love most about the company?
What truly resonates with me is the innovative ethos underpinning the company’s operations, the exceptional benefits offered to its staff, and Rob’s ambitious vision for its growth.
I am particularly inspired by the passion and energy Rob brings to simplifying complex ecological processes for developer clients. With the right support and people around him, Rob and Arbtech can transform the market and policy landscape.
I also love Arbtech’s bold vision and dynamic team culture. They manage to strike a balance between professional excellence and a fun, supportive work environment. It’s inspiring to see how everyone is genuinely passionate about making a difference.
What do you do when you are not in Arbtech?
I’m passionate about the work I do, so my spare time outside of Arbtech is often spent working on other projects.
I am a non-executive director of Legacy Habitat Banks and the CEO of Responsible Business – an ESG consultancy.
Other than that, you’ll find me walking my cocker spaniel Treacle during my downtime.
What is the biggest tip to achieve the most in life?
My biggest tip is to identify your purpose and let it guide every decision.
When you align your work and personal goals with your core values, you not only achieve success but also fulfilment.
Stay curious, embrace challenges, and don’t underestimate the power of collaboration.
What is the best social you’ve been on at Arbtech?
I haven’t been on any yet, but I’ve heard great things and can’t wait to attend my first!
Where do you want to travel to next?
Having done a lot of travelling in my lifetime already, I haven’t got anywhere in my mind that I’d like to visit.
Instead, I’d much rather enjoy a quiet evening in front of the log fire.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time?
I am excited about where I will be in five years’ time.
By then, I will have paid off my mortgage and built up a strong enough proposition and client base for Responsible Business that I will be able to sell the company.
What is a goal you have for the future, in or out of work?
Continuing from my previous answer, after paying off my mortgage and selling my company, I’ll be able to move on to another goal and take on two additional advisory roles in sustainability-focused companies that look to solve some of the world’s biggest challenges.
