Ecologist and Arbtech subcontractor, Chris Gosset, tell us what he thinks
Summer of 2014 will be my second season working as a subcontractor with Arbtech as a bat surveyor.
Responding to an advert in CJS, I attended the training days [run by Jo Gregory], having no prior experience in this field, just a keen interest and enthusiasm for ecology. The role involves monitoring bat roosts at dusk for any emergences and at dawn for re-entries, whilst identifying the different species and other, localised activity.
Support for continued professional development
The support I continue to receive from the team at Arbtech is outstanding, enabling me to develop from a position of little experience to where I am today – completing my bat detector surveys with professionalism and confidence.
With Arbtech, you really feel that you are an integral part of the work and that your efforts are appreciated. Flexible working has enabled me to have time to continue with my masters degree – if you are keen and reliable it will be noted and rewarded. The company are also absolutely excellent at responding quickly to invoices. Usually payment is received within seven working days of submission!
If you are looking for a full time career in ecology, or part time work and experience in this field, I would strongly recommend you apply to Arbtech.
Jo Gregory says:
When I first met him two years ago, Chris was enthusiastic but didn’t have very much experience of bat detector work. Since then he has attended around fifty bat surveys for Arbtech and is now considered a ‘lead-surveyor’ for bat emergence surveys. This is quite an honour, as it means he is capable of running a site where other bat surveyors are present, a role normally reserved for in-house Arbtechers. Chris’ old-fashioned hard work and his commitment to learning and professional development is the reason for we trust him with our reputation.
Well done, Chris!
Jo subcontracted to Arbtech for two years as an ecological consultant before being offered a permanent role as a full-time Arbtecher.
