Archie Harries
I chose to work at Arbtech because of the interesting ecological work that is a huge part of the job.
Furthermore, the ability to develop skills and knowledge across ecology is fantastic.
The flexibility of the job is really freeing too – of course, you get the work done, but if you need to run an errand or want to go for a run in the middle of the day, you can.
The continued professional development (CPD) is a great tool on offer that gives you the ability to develop skills you want to develop – something that I will definitely be using in the future!
I love the supportive and determined nature of the people who work here.
There is always someone to turn to if I’m not sure of something, and everyone is determined to get the work done and keep improving.
Having people around like this makes me perform better and strive to iron out my weaknesses.
When I’m not working at Arbtech, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends.
I love getting out into nature and hiking, which helps me get away from the chaotic modern world we live in.
I also spend a lot of time playing guitar and jamming with my friends.
Have high ambitions, but don’t focus on the huge climb in front of you; focus on the next step you need to take, and then the next.
If you take care of the little things, the big things tend to take care of themselves.
Things don’t always work out how you want them to, but there are a lot of valuable lessons in ‘failures’.
They’re only failures if you don’t try again. Otherwise, they’re lessons.
The day after completing a bat survey in the Lake District, a couple of my colleagues and I went for a swim in Ulverston water and had a hike around the beautiful surroundings.
I’d love to travel to South East Asia, particularly Thailand to spend some time scuba diving.
In five years’ time, I’d like to still be working at Arbtech, but I’d like to have moved out and be living somewhere closer to the sea.
I’d also like to have improved the things in life that are important to me: my work abilities, skills and knowledge; my fitness goals; my relationships; and I’d like to have travelled to and experienced some amazing places around the world.
A goal for the future for me would be to learn how to surf.
Archie joined Arbtech in October 2024.
