Richard Weaver
The reputation of the company and the initial impression I got from the senior ecologists told me that it’s a growing place with an amazing culture.
Everyone speaks highly of the organisation, and the passion they put into the work made me feel that it was the right place.
How there is so much energy!
The way everyone interacts and works together to obtain the same goal is refreshing and means that work moves forward at a much faster pace.
The knowledge and experience you see from all the other ecologists allows for questions to be answered and encourages continual personal progression.
When I have the time – which isn’t much at the moment – I like green woodworking and blacksmithing.
I have been making for almost 15 years and it’s a hobby where you’ll never quite get to the end, as there is so much you can learn!
Everyone thinks my house is full of stuff I’ve made, but I’ve either sold or given most of it away to friends and family.
I also play the guitar and love listening to music. I’ve recently fallen into the trap of buying vinyl, so I’m often looking for records and playing along when I have a free moment in the house.
I’ve always felt that the more diverse, varied paths we take in life make for the most interesting and fulfilling experiences.
I’ve tried to live by this rule, so when I see an experience that’s intriguing and worth exploring, I do it!
Whether it’s learning something new, travelling or taking the leap with work, being diverse and trying new things leads to a more exciting life.
This philosophy has led me down some interesting paths; at the end of the day, it has led me here!
Sadly, I’ve not been to one yet, but I’ve been told by a few people that they are amazing and a great opportunity to meet colleagues.
I’m looking forward to seeing everyone at the Christmas party.
I did a bit of travelling when I was younger, spending a year in Australia and moving across Europe in my truck for over five months. In that time, I managed to cover a few miles, and I learned that while Australia is beautiful, I prefer colder climates!
In terms of where I would love to travel next, it would have to be either Scandinavia or Alaska. I’m a cold-weather person, so somewhere quiet, cold and snowy is preferable!
I would love to see the Northern lights one day, so Scandinavia or Alaska would be the place to make that happen.
It’s hard to say, but I would like to be in a position where I’m able to make a difference as well as support others in their personal interests.
Ecology is always evolving, so with my own personal interest in invasive plant species, I would love to be able to develop more work in that area going forward.
I would love to retire in Wales – maybe have a smallholding and a workshop so I can spend more time making things.
I love being outdoors, so if I could continue with survey work or maybe support a local LNR or community group, I would be happy.
