Zenobia Hatch
I had been following Arbtech on social media for a while and reading through all of the perks on the company’s website. To be honest, it all sounded too good to be true at first!
I asked my friend who already worked here what it was really like and was amazed at her extremely positive response.
So, when the opportunity came up for me to join Arbtech, I jumped at the chance!
Having a healthy work-life balance is integral to succeeding, both in the workplace and at home.
I’ve found remote working can play a key part in achieving a healthy balance. I worked remotely in a previous role and knew I could never go back to working in an office. I always thought that finding a company that not only offers remote working but also the flexibility and freedom to choose the hours I work was too big of an ask and my expectations were too high.
At Arbtech, however, remote working, flexibility and freedom all come as standard, which I absolutely love!
It makes a hugely positive impact, meaning my work and personal life can co-exist, allowing me to thrive in both and make sacrifices in neither.
Not only does Arbtech offer a huge list of perks and true autonomy over the work schedule – it also comes with an extremely supportive team. From the moment I received a job offer, I have been made to feel welcomed, valued and heard.
My life outside of Arbtech can be very busy – living with two working-line German Shepherds makes sure of that!
I love training my dogs and going on long adventures, combining my enthusiasm for dogs with my passion for wildlife, particularly bird watching. I am also a trainee bird ringer, which keeps me pretty busy too.
When I’m not outside, I spend time gaming, reading, building Lego, playing board games with friends and family, and attending car shows, concerts and museums.
Chances are you are likely to spend most of your life working, so it is really important to strive to do something you enjoy. There is nothing worse than being stuck in a job you hate and just wishing the week away to get to your days off.
If you don’t like where you are, only you can change it. It could mean a lot of hard work, discipline and dedication, but the end result will be absolutely worth it.
I feel this also applies to all aspects of your life; if you have a goal but feel defeated because it will take a long time to achieve, there is no better time to start than today. Time will pass regardless of what you do, so why not spend it working towards something?
I have only just started working at Arbtech, so I have not been on any socials yet, though I’ve heard exciting things about them!
I am really looking forward to the Christmas party, as it will be a great opportunity to meet everyone in person.
There are too many places to list! I love exploring new habitats, seeing a range of wildlife, and experiencing different cultures.
New Zealand, Australia, Papua New Guinea, Tokyo and Italy are all on the list, just to name a few. Although at the top of my bucket list currently is to drive along Route 66 in a 1965-67 Ford Mustang.
I am going back to Snowdonia in April 2025 with my dogs, and I cannot wait for that. I love exploring the Welsh countryside, and I’m excited to show my dogs Scotland too.
I don’t tend to set five-year goals, as my plans often change, and I don’t like the idea of feeling like I’m setting myself up to fail or be restricted from moving from my current trajectory.
One thing I am certain of though is that I hope that wherever I am, I am happy, married to my fiancée, and enjoying life with our dogs.
Professionally, I hope to gain my bat and barn owl protected species licences, as well as progress my career to senior ecologist. I am keen to become a very well-rounded ecologist, specialising in ornithological surveys and BNG.
Outside of work, I am hoping to get married in 2026, build a project car with my partner, and get back into horse riding. I have also recently started doing scent work with one of my dogs and would love to be able to compete in trials with her.
Zenobia joined Arbtech in November 2024.
