Daisy Lee-Browne
After graduating from my master’s and spending time working abroad, I decided I wanted to find work in the industry, and so began the long process of applying to all sorts of environmental roles and companies.
The happy result of this is I found Arbtech, who luckily for me were hiring for the new geo-environmental division.
The role fit everything I was looking for – flexibility, the opportunity to help grow a new team, a big learning curve, and the chance to work in the geo-environmental sector.
Easiest yes of my life so far!
I’m very new to the company, but I can already appreciate all the ways Arbtech sets you up to succeed.
Everyone is given the tools to work hard and, crucially, look after themselves too, which makes for a great work culture.
A huge part of this is the autonomy and flexibility we have over our working hours.
Not being restricted to traditional working hours means I can make the most out of times in the day that I know I am most productive, which for me personally is the morning.
I’m finding this means I have more time and headspace for work and also for my life outside of work.
Win-win.
I’m also very excited to make the most of the unlimited CPD budget – a pretty unreal concept, and as I develop in my role, I can see so many opportunities to get a lot out of it.
I seem to manage to take up new hobbies every year that are either dangerous or expensive!
At the moment, I’m doing a lot of trail running (so slightly less dangerous or expensive), but I also love climbing, skiing, sailing and weightlifting.
Yoga has also become a crucial part of my week for both body and soul!
When the weather is rubbish and I can’t be outside, I love to cook and take care of our houseplant jungle at home.
I’m attempting to learn the guitar too – I’ve played the violin since I was four, and thought it would be similar, but have since discovered I’ve got a lot to learn…
I’m also lucky that my friends are scattered all over the country and the wider world, so I have a good excuse to visit lots of fun places while I see them.
Enjoy the ride! Ups and downs will come, but it’s all part of the experience.
I also think it’s important to not take yourself too seriously.
At the same time though, it’s good to take what you do seriously and have a sense of pride in working hard.
I’m new at Arbtech, so I haven’t had the pleasure of experiencing the infamous socials yet, but I am very excited for when the next one comes around!
Where to choose…I’ve been planning a big Dolomites trip with my three best uni mates since 2020 – which got stopped by a small global pandemic – so hopefully we can make that happen next year.
My boyfriend is also mad about snowboarding, so visiting Canada or Austria, and maybe even spending the summer skiing in Chile, are all on the cards.
I’d also love to climb abroad. I’ve bouldered in Font, which was awesome, but I am very keen to get on some big walls one day.
I’d also love to travel around Central and South America sometime and experience all those incredible and varied cultures – authentic Mexican food is my dream cuisine!
I’m not a huge planner, and I think the beauty of being in your 20s is the ability to explore what you like, what you’re good at, and what you want out of life and work.
For now, I’m very excited to help grow the geo-environmental division at Arbtech. I’ve got a lot to learn and can’t wait to see what we can do over the next few years.
At work, I’m looking to tackle this enormous learning curve I have in front of me, with the goal to eventually manage a part of the team and take on my own projects.
Down the line, I’m also very keen to be involved in the business development side of the geo team, and to get there, I plan on working hard, enjoying it, and seeing where this role takes me.
Outside of work, I am super keen to learn how to kitesurf – living inland, I really miss the sea, so I am looking for an excuse to get back out on the water and explore some incredible coastlines around the world!
