Dom Jones
What stood out to me about Arbtech was the mix of ambition, the people-first culture, and the practical impact.
Although I’ve been working as a software developer for the last six years, I actually studied zoology at university, so joining a company connected to ecology, biodiversity and the natural world feels like a really nice link back to that interest.
I was also drawn to Arbtech’s straight-talking approach, focus on helping clients solve real planning problems, and the fact that it seems like a modern company that trusts its people and does things a bit differently.
As I’m just joining, I’m excited by what I’ve seen so far; Arbtech seems to genuinely care about its people and its clients.
The flexible culture, focus on development, and the way the company talks about making work enjoyable really stood out to me.
It feels like a place where people are trusted, supported and encouraged to contribute.
Outside of work, I’m usually training or teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, having recently received my black belt.
I also enjoy working on personal tech projects, learning more about photography, playing Marvel Rivals, and getting stuck into creative hobbies when I have the time.
‘Little and often’ is a mantra that I repeat quite often.
Be consistent, stay curious, and don’t wait until you feel fully ready before trying something new.
Small improvements compound over time, and the people who achieve the most are usually the ones who keep showing up, keep learning and keep moving forward even when things feel difficult.
I haven’t been on any yet due to being new to the company, but I’ve heard great things about them and can’t wait to get involved!
Japan is high on my list.
I’d love to experience the food, culture, scenery and cities, and I’ve always been interested in how traditional and modern life sit side by side there.
In five years, I’d like to be someone who has made a real impact at Arbtech, grown both technically and personally, and become a trusted person within the team.
I’d like to keep developing my skills, take on more responsibility, and contribute to work that genuinely improves how the company operates.
A big goal for me is to keep building a well-rounded life where I’m progressing in my career while also developing the things I care about outside of work.
Professionally, I want to keep improving as a developer and contribute to meaningful, useful products.
Outside of work, I’d like to continue growing in Jiu-Jitsu, keep creating more photo and video content, and travel more.
