Since volunteering my free time at a local zoo at 18, I knew I wanted to work in some form of career based around ecology or conservation.
I wasn’t particularly bothered whether that meant habitat conservation or getting directly involved in animal projects – I just knew I wanted a career in the field.
A (good) few years later, I spent a summer subcontracting for Arbtech after a friend – and now colleague – recommended the company to me.
I really enjoyed the work and found the company, staff and overall set-up to be a great fit, so I decided to apply through the internship programme with the aim of securing a permanent role.
Fast forward to today, and here we are.
It’s tough to get a company of 200+ employees to gel and work well together, but Arbtech seems to have it pretty well nailed down.
Outside of that, the level of trust given to you from day one is unheard of in any other job I’ve held. They really know how to treat employees well and get the most out of them.
Chances are you’ll either find me hitting the pads at Muay Thai, checking out a gig (either music or stand-up) or off wandering up a hill or through some woods looking for weird mushrooms.
Stay genuine.
Faking it until you make it only gets you so far.
ArbFest 2026 was a banger, hitting the waves for some water sports and hanging out by fire pits afterwards can’t be topped.
That’s too broad a question – I want to travel everywhere!
I’m currently planning a trip to California, where I’m going to book an RV and head down the West Coast.
But I’ve got bucket list items to tick off in the next few years, like sailing through the islands of Fiji or travelling across Southeast Asia to look for their funky and weird wildlife.
Somewhere between career progression and an existential crisis. Or still here at Arbtech with some more ecological notches under my belt. Whichever comes first…
Within work, I’d like to hone my skill set and progress to achieving various species licenses.
Outside of work, I’d like to progress outside of interclub and get onto a sanctioned card in Muay Thai before I turn 35.
Jamie joined Arbtech in September 2026.
