Andy Ward
I already knew Rob, our MD, before starting at Arbtech, and I already knew what a great company Arbtech was.
When an opportunity came up to help Arbtech with the marketing side, I took it.
The thing I love most about Arbtech is the freedom. Arbtech suits self-starters who are effective at working independently. You will be trusted to get on with your work without micromanagement, but you’ll have support from other team members if you need it.
Everyone at Arbtech is trusted to complete their work in whatever manner suits them best, calling for discipline and focus but also offering a lot of flexibility.
In my spare time, I train in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and have done for around 13 years now, receiving my black belt in 2022.
I do lots of hiking – mainly around Snowdonia. I’m very lucky to live just over an hour away from some of the best mountains in the country. In the past few years, I’ve completed a number of different mountain challenges like the Welsh 3000s (all 15 mountains in Wales that are over 3000 feet within 24 hours) and the Welsh three peaks (Snowdon, Cadair Idris and Pen y Fan within 24 hours).
Other than that, I like to spend as much time as I can with my wife and five-year-old son. I also walk my dog Ollie and have started to become slightly obsessed with chess.
Consistency.
I think you can achieve anything if you set a goal and consistently do something that brings you closer to that goal.
If you’re able to do that, even when things get tough or you lose motivation, you can’t fail.
In January 2023, half of the team went to Austria for a week of jiu-jitsu, snowboarding and skiing. It was an amazing trip, and everyone had a great time.
That has definitely been my favourite social so far, but we’ve had many great ones over the years, like driving Porsches around Silverstone racetrack.
My next trip will be to Disneyland in Paris with my family.
After that, I’m keen to explore Iceland. I’ve been there before, but the weather was so bad that I wasn’t able to see and do as much as I wanted.
It’s hard to imagine working anywhere else, so hopefully, I’ll still be at Arbtech helping to grow the company.
If our amazing growth continues, then I expect to be part of a larger marketing team by then.
One goal I’ve had for a while is to climb the Inaccessible Pinnacle on the Cuillin Ridge.
Hopefully, I’ll be able to complete that this year.
Andy joined Arbtech in August 2015.
