Hannah Upshall
I chose to apply for a graduate role at the company because I was really impressed with the Arbtechers that I had met while subcontracting the year before.
They were friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgeable, and it made me keen to gain a permanent position with Arbtech. It was then reinforced after hearing about the culture of the company and the amazing perks, such as unlimited opportunities and funding for training.
So far, I have been really impressed with the friendliness and supportive nature of the team.
That said, I am still pretty new to the company, so I am excited to learn more about what makes Arbtech and its employees so special.
I am currently studying for an MSc in applied ecology, which has been taking up a lot of my time.
When I’m not stuck working on an assignment or being a mum to my two children, I enjoy roller skating (badly), yoga, music and painting.
Always make time for things that make you happy and healthy.
It can be hard to always get the ‘life balance’ right, but it’s important to make sure that you set the reset button sometimes.
When your ‘life balance’ isn’t in equilibrium, all areas can suffer – relationships, work, health and happiness.
So, make sure that you make time for yourself, and it will help you to make the best of all your time.
Although I only recently started at Arbtech so I haven’t experienced the socials properly yet, I managed to squeeze in a day at Latitude Festival, and I am really looking forward to camping with everyone there next year.
I’m also looking forward to the summer social at the aqua park and the Christmas party.
I went to South Africa this year to collect data for a research project, and I would love to go there again next year to volunteer.
I also love Scandinavian countries and have been to the Norwegian Fjords twice. Taking another trip there but going a bit further north to see the Arora Borealis is definitely on my bucket list, as well as visiting the Ice Hotel and seeing the huskies.
I see myself still at Arbtech but full of much more knowledge and expertise, especially in botany.
I would also love to learn more about the arboriculture side of the company.
The main goal I need to work on is my fitness level.
I broke my knee badly during the pandemic, and I haven’t managed to prioritise this important aspect of my life due to other commitments.
This is now at the top of the list, and with the great perks at Arbtech, it makes it easier with the gym membership contribution. We are also planning on getting a puppy at Christmas which I can’t wait to walk every day.
Hannah joined Arbtech in August 2023.
