Jeremy Grout
Ever since I embarked on my career in ecological consulting, Arbtech has always remained on my radar as one of the leading ecological consultancies nationwide. Over the past couple of years, I have been closely following their progression and development via social media.
I initially applied to work as a graduate ecologist at Arbtech in late 2021 after a season of ecological surveying for an alternative consultancy.
Unfortunately, I did not get the role, but I spent the next two years gaining a plethora of ecological experience, joining as a consultant ecologist after two years of grinding.
What really captured my attention was the endless praise Arbtech received from its staff members. I had never seen anything quite like it!
The company prides itself on its culture and treatment of staff – something I am very much looking forward to being a part of when I join.
What also enticed me was the company’s dedication to assisting its staff members in achieving their personal goals. The availability of unlimited CPD training will ensure that I can make the most out of my career.
I am deeply passionate about health and fitness. I play rugby for my local club on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with game day on Saturdays. On the other days of the week, you would find me at the gym, working on strength and conditioning.
With any remaining free time, I enjoy spending it with family and friends, whether it’s going out for food, meeting up at a pub, or engaging in day activities. I also have family in Cornwall, so I often take trips down to the coast.
Enjoy the journey and remember to not compare yourself or your journey to others.
People advance at different rates; everyone has their own path.
Having only recently joined Arbtech, I haven’t yet had the chance to attend any socials. However, I have seen the various trips posted on social media, and it looks like a fantastic opportunity to develop relationships with colleagues.
I thoroughly look forward to my first social at Arbtech.
During my university years, I was fortunate enough to travel to various places around the world, including South Africa, Mexico and Borneo. Additionally, outside of university, I have also travelled around Europe.
After graduating from university, I had plans to travel to Australia. Unfortunately, like many others, my plans were disrupted due to the pandemic. I hope at some point I will get the opportunity to go travelling again.
Australia remains at the top of my list. I have a passion for marine biology and ecology, so I would love to go diving on the Great Barrier Reef.
Over the next 5 years, I aim to focus heavily on my career to gain as much experience in the ecological sector as possible.
In 5 years’ time, I hope to have attained several protected species licences, acquiring a broad range of knowledge on planning, development and – most importantly – ecological matters.
I would also hold a senior member position at Arbtech, whether a senior ecologist or principal ecologist, working on large and complex projects, and managing my own portfolio of clients.
Since I entered the ecological sector, my long-term goal has been to establish my own consultancy or to become a director/partner of an existing well-known ecological consultancy.
In the short term, my aim is to excel in my career at Arbtech, becoming a well-established member of the team and making a significant impact within the company.
Jeremy joined Arbtech in October 2023.
