Millie Holland
I really enjoyed my time as a subcontractor at Arbtech and instantly wanted to join the company on a permanent basis.
Everybody I met was as knowledgeable as the next, and they ensured that I was taken care of.
Arbtech gave me a unique opportunity to expand my skills and knowledge by allowing me to learn on the job and work at my own speed.
Being such a self-motivated person means that I thrive when I am given tasks and left to get on with them. Seeing all these people enjoying what they do day-to-day encouraged me to give it a go.
Not to spoil the ending, but it certainly paid off!
My favourite thing is their continued professional development (CPD) programme, which allows me to enhance my skills in a chosen field, support my further qualifications, and increase my knowledge in other aspects.
Being a graduate means that training is so important to me. After talking to Rob in the second interview, I felt confident that they would support me to develop in the company.
As somebody who has ADHD, I must also ensure that my work-life balance is good. Otherwise, I end up feeling like I’m of no use to anybody! So, the comfort of knowing that I can work (within reason) at my own pace with the support of my colleagues gives me the confidence to put out my best work.
As typical as it is for a nature nut to say this, I love being outside. My favourite place is at home in the Peak District with the dogs.
I always seem to be busy. I don’t really like routine, so it is important for me to keep my brain active all the time.
I’m fascinated by the human mind, and if I hadn’t gone into the environmental sector, I would have studied criminology and psychology.
Follow your gut.
Often, your gut is the best advice you can get, so listen to it!
I’d also say to be proud of where you’ve come from; every mistake, success or fall is there for a reason, even if it doesn’t feel like it at the time.
I haven’t been on any yet due to only recently starting work at Arbtech.
I am really looking forward to getting involved in the next one though.

I am really looking forward to getting involved in the next one though.
Honestly, I don’t know.
More than anything, I am excited to put my skills to the test in ecology and arboriculture.
I recently moved four hours away from home, which is something I didn’t see for myself five years ago, but life is strange like that!
I think the political climate and climate change will influence where I am in five years.
My biggest goal for the future is to have made a difference – cliché, I know.
I hope to do research into earthworms and microplastics to further my master’s thesis, possibly even in a PhD setting.
I would also like to never stop learning, as I believe that life is there for living, and to do that, you have to never close your mind to new experiences.
Millie joined Arbtech in September 2023.
