Nic Baxter
I was on a bus with my master’s cohort looking at dream job descriptions in preparation for when we graduated and became professional ecologists, and low and behold, Arbtech’s was the most popular. We instantly said to each other ‘one day!’
So, when the opportunity to start the internship came up, I leapt for it. Thankfully, I was able to stay on afterwards and keep the journey going.
The flexibility is incredible and the support is unending. I have two children under the age of five, so being able to manage my own time is essential.
Although the work is very independent, I never feel isolated, and help is only at the end of my fingertips.
I am an avid reader, so I’ll be wrapped up in the evening reading some kind of action or fantasy book.
I’m also a new Warhammer fan, so painting models and reading the lore fills in the gaps!
As I mentioned above, I am a mother to two boys, so I also have to be a part-time taxi driver and teach them climbing, swimming, Jiu-Jitsu and anything else they’re interested in!
Be honest with yourself and share your passion.
If you find something you enjoy, embrace it; shout it from the rooftops, follow the rabbit hole, and embrace your weird!
I’m fresh to the team, but I’ve heard incredible stories!
So, I’m excited to see what our next adventure is.
I have a trip planned with my sisters to go to South Korea in 2026, but my husband and his best friend are trying their best to tempt me into agreeing to a Vietnam adventure beforehand!
Travelling was a big part of my husband and I’s lifestyle before our children. As our birthdays are only 16 days apart, it became a birthday tradition to go away around the same time every year.
Probably up to my elbows in mud and grass!
The world of ecology is incredibly vast, and I don’t think I’ll ever stop learning.
Thankfully, I’ve found a company just as invested in helping me to continue to grow. Hopefully, I’ll still be here at Arbtech working on my skills!
Within the world of work, I want to push myself up to new FISC levels and progress towards new licences.
Outside of work, my son and I are learning British sign language together, so I’m hoping to keep working on that and get to a level where I can have full conversations using it.
Nic joined Arbtech in October 2024.
