Zoe Cox
I chose Arbtech as I was previously working abroad, and I wanted to move back to the UK.
With 10 years’ experience in conservation but no experience in the UK, I found it hard to break into ecology. I knew it was a field I had transferable skills in, but no one would give me a chance to learn and prove myself.
I came across Arbtech’s internship, and their open attitude to recruitment was exactly what I needed, as well as being a company willing to invest in my learning because they saw my potential.
They didn’t focus on what I didn’t have but on what I could achieve.
They focus on the quality of your work, as opposed to what you wear, where you studied or when you are working.
For ecologists at Arbtech, you work how and when it suits you, and that’s how you get the best out of people.
If the quality of your work is good, you can have it all.
I love to be creative with knitting, sewing and crochet.
I travel as regularly as I can both abroad and within the UK.
I like staying active with open water swimming and running, and I love cooking.
After all, the more I exercise, the more I can eat!
Take every opportunity which comes your way.
You’ll learn what you like and what you don’t like, and it is all character development if it goes wrong!
I haven’t been to one yet.
However, I worked on a big great crested newt project with a team of ecologists, and even though it was multiple early mornings, it was always a hoot.
I don’t know just yet, but I recently came back from Georgia, and it is my favourite place I’ve been to so far.
Everyone needs to go!
More than anything, I now realistically see myself balancing work, family and travel, all thanks to Arbtech!
After living abroad for my 20s in various remote locations, I crave stability, so I would love to own my home.
And if I win the lottery, I’d love a second house in Japan!
Zoe joined Arbtech in October 2025.
