What made you choose Arbtech?
Arbtech was a shot in the dark for me. I wanted a change, and I wanted to work in the industry I had studied for so many years. Arbtech was the first opportunity I stumbled across that was genuinely appealing.
They offered a paid internship that is just unheard of in this industry, and after six months, it completely opened the door to ecology.
The internship is really something that changed my life, and for that, I am extremely grateful to this company.
When they offered me a job, I accepted almost instantly.
What do you love most about the company?
This company really has it all when it comes to flexibility with work.
Want to work from your bathtub? you can do that; need to pop to the shop to grab a few bits? take as long as you need; fancy working overtime? no worries – it’s well-paid!
Maybe an extreme example, but it just goes to show how much trust the company puts into you to do the work you’re hired to do in whatever way you work best.
What do you do when you are not in Arbtech?
When I’m not working, you’ll usually find me in one of three places: chatting and playing games with friends, off frolicking through nature, or – like a true Brit – in the pub.
I enjoy gallivanting around wildlife. I’ve walked the Scottish Highlands and wandered the Irish coast, but my favourite trip by far was when I spent a couple of months touring around wildlife parks in South Africa. During this time, I helped a group release water buffalo, medicate rhinos and even stumbled upon a six-tonne bull elephant on foot.
What is the biggest tip to achieve the most in life?
Find something that gives you a drive.
It could be work; it could be the love of your life; it could be the yoghurt in your fridge. Find that thing and use it to support the things you find challenging in life.
What is the best social you’ve been on at Arbtech?
I’m still relatively new to Arbtech at this time, but I’m looking forward to future social events I can get involved with.
Where do you want to travel to next?
There are a million and one places I want to go, but next on the list is Mozambique.
I’ve heard so many stories of diving with the giant aquatic wildlife over there. I’m eager to jump in and explore!
Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
Scared at the prospect that my 30s are quickly approaching!
But hopefully, I’ll be a fleshed-out ecologist at Arbtech by then. I can’t see a reason why I’d want to leave.
What is a goal you have for the future, in or out of work?
I’m not really one to plan for the future, as I like to follow a path made up of impulsive choices.
That said, I’d like to go on more adventures and travel more of the world(‘s pubs)…
