Gill Broad
I thought the company sounded energetic and progressive, and meeting Rob back in August 2021 left me in no doubt of that!
Being in at the start of Arbtech’s growth of the marketing team, I felt I could help enhance the output of content from the ground up, bringing with me another dimension through my background of land and property management and journalism.
For me, Arbtech is the perfect size of company to work for and far more compelling than working for very big companies, which I have done in the past, where the top management can seem distant.
Arbtech’s size – and it is growing rapidly – still means that it can offer great opportunities and staff perks. The flexible working from home is also attractive, as it means that I can organise my own timetable, while the internal Slack communication channel enables day-to-day contact with colleagues and makes you feel part of a team.
Everyone has a voice and can communicate directly with managers very easily.
A lot of the emphasis is put on the Arbtech culture, which focuses on physical and mental wellbeing, encouraging employees to stay fit and healthy and maintain a good work-life balance.
Rob is a strong leader and clearly drives the business forward 24/7, which is fantastic for building team spirit. He is also very transparent about sharing information on how the company is performing, which is a very refreshing approach and certainly something I have not come across before.
The rate that the company has grown at since I started here is amazing and a testament to its sound base and vision.
I’m a member of two tennis clubs and play regularly, both in winter and summer. I am also a keen quizzer and part of a quiz team which competes locally, with very mixed results; my specialist subjects are art, literature and cocktails.
I also enjoy walking in the Bickerton Hills and further afield, and generally getting out and about in the fresh air.
I am always keen to improve my cooking skills and enjoy trying out new recipes on family and friends – often involving curries.
Learning more about wine is also an interest that I would like to devote more time to.
Scrabble is my go-to board game.
Getting out of your comfort zone now and again is a great boost to your well-being.
Don’t get distracted worrying about things you have no control over; concentrate on things you can influence.
The Christmas social 2022, which involved Arbtech taking over the whole floor of a great Chester venue and treating the entire workforce to amazing food, drinks, live music and a DJ.
Getting the chance to meet Arbtechers from all around the UK at these socials is amazing.
Argentina is at the top of my wish list, but more realistically this year, it could be southern Spain for the sunshine and tapas, and hopefully Vienna for the Sachertorte (while not every trip has to have a food theme, it really helps).
I hope to have helped make Arbtech into a real player in terms of the property information side of content, and to be an editor with a great team full of talent around me.
Hopefully, alongside content relating to property and land, the site will have evolved over the years to include other new and dynamic angles.
Workwise, I want to attract more visitors to the company brand websites and obtain interesting and eye-catching articles from high-profile property professionals. I would like to see our content grow to cover more relevant ground across the property industry, such as land and farming topics.
Outside of work, I am keen to improve my slice serve on the tennis court, which is letting me down badly.
I also want to learn to play golf this year; I had some lessons a while ago but need to get more serious about it. Keeping fit and healthy is vital to enabling all of the above.
