Lizzie Hill
I chose Arbtech because I was looking for a change after working in the conservation sector for over five years.
I was starting to consider ecology as my potential next move, and I heard about Arbtech through one of my friends.
I looked up the company and thought it sounded too good to be true, but I kept it in the back of my mind as a ‘maybe one day goal’ to work towards.
I was scrolling through LinkedIn and decided to look through Arbtech’s posts when I discovered that Arbtech ran a yearly internship.
Despite having spent years developing a skillset in practical conservation, ecology was a totally new skillset for me, so I was struggling to even get my foot in the door.
The internship looked like the perfect way to start my career, so I applied, and here I am!
I love the flexibility that Arbtech offers, which allows me to live my life with more balance, fitting work around my active lifestyle.
I also love the people at Arbtech; surrounding yourself with like-minded people who strive for growth is so important, and everyone is so friendly and helpful.
When I’m not working, most of my time is spent at the gym, outdoors or on my yoga mat.
I’ve been weightlifting for 15 years, and much of my life revolves around anything and everything fitness.
I discovered callisthenics around two years ago, and since then, I’ve started to compete in strength endurance callisthenics competitions, placing 2nd in this year’s North Regional Championship.
I’ve also taken up running, I love to hike, and I do yoga/mobility daily.
With any extra time that isn’t taken up with my fitness obsession, I also love birdwatching, being out in nature and reading.
Don’t rely on motivation – rely on discipline because consistency is key.
Be your authentic self. If you aren’t true to yourself, you won’t attract the right opportunities or the right people.
Whilst I’m still really new, I have yet to experience an Arbtech social, but I am looking forward to attending my first ArbCon this year.
I’d love to travel to Madeira next because it looks amazing for hiking, nature and birding.
I would also really love to go back to Iceland. It has a special place in my heart, and every time I travel there, there’s always something different to see or do.
I don’t plan too far ahead with specifics, but I’d love to still be enjoying what I do for work.
I also want to have my own house with a big garden so I can grow my own food and make space for wildlife.
I’m currently studying to become a strength and conditioning coach.
I’d love to have my own coaching business alongside working in the environmental sector, as these are my two main passions.
Lizzie joined Arbtech in October 2025.
