Vishal Chady
After having done a few jobs over the years, I realised that I really needed to find a job that I enjoy, as I couldn’t see myself spending a career confined to a single office or laboratory. I knew ecology was my passion but was unsure of a route into it.
One of my childhood friends (who’s now a consultant at Arbtech) shared a LinkedIn post about the internship, and I remembered that she’d recommended it to me a year or two ago.
I messaged her for more information about it and decided to apply!
I love the trust in allowing you to plan your own workload and the freedom that comes with pursuing your own ecological interests.
The unlimited CPD budget, the countless socials and the culture of helping each other out are some of my favourite aspects.
I enjoy travelling, driving, music, cooking and taking photos (particularly of landscapes and wildlife).
Two of my favourite hobbies are shooting and playing steel pan. I’ve won a few awards from shooting competitions over the years…and in 2023, my steel band won the Notting Hill Carnival competition for best band!
I also enjoy spending time with family and walking my dog.
I’m an avid gardener and have grown all types of fruit, vegetables, flowers and herbs in my garden over the years.
Pursue your passions.
Developing in any field takes effort, but developing in an area you don’t enjoy takes much more effort.
Also, don’t be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone.
A couple of years ago, I decided to solo-travel travel Sri Lanka for three weeks. It was a scary experience at first, being alone and making every decision myself. However, I loved it in the end and found it to be both liberating and empowering.
One in Brighton!
A video game bar, axe-throwing, shuffleboarding, drinks, good food and great company make for a memorable night.
A few places I would love to travel to are India, Jamaica, Fiji, America, Australia and New Zealand.
I would also love to do another nature holiday somewhere with lots of biodiversity such as Madagascar, South Africa or the Galapagos Islands.
Working as a senior ecologist, well-travelled, and in great shape with an active lifestyle.
I would love to present wildlife and/or travel content.
A lifetime of travelling back to Trinidad and Tobago and back to Mauritius has exposed me to some of the most beautiful wildlife and cultures we have on the planet, I would love to showcase it.
