Maddy Carter
The advert for the internship was honest and understanding of how difficult it can be to get into the ecology industry. It presented an amazing opportunity for me after I’d just recently left university, and I only had limited field experience, as I undertook my degree during the pandemic.
When I looked further into the company, it was all green flags, and the culture and perks that came with the job were something I couldn’t dismiss.
The people.
I have met such a range of people who are all so knowledgeable and willing to help me to learn and progress.
On top of that, I really enjoy the flexible working hours and being able to make my own schedule so I can still continue with things I find important, such as the gym and taking my rottie for her walks.
I enjoy travelling. My next trip is to Scotland to go on some long hikes and enjoy the local countryside.
I like to go to the gym regularly and take my dog on long walks all around Kent.
I am vegan, so I enjoy cooking and trying new restaurants and different types of food.
I believe that it is very important to have a good work-life balance – something that Arbtech actively promotes.
I have a job that I thoroughly enjoy and am excited about every day, but I also have the time to pursue my passions outside of work.
I have been lucky enough to be on a lot of different socials during my time at Arbtech, but ArbCon 2024 tops them all.
Not only did we get to have talks from our very knowledgeable senior colleagues, but we also got to enjoy a casino night and games night.
It was lovely to spend a few days with our colleagues as well so we could catch up with those that we only realistically get to see a handful of times throughout the year.
My next trip is to Scotland, but following this, I would like to travel to one of the Scandinavian countries for the scenery and then to Ibiza in the summer.
Career-wise, I hope to have some protected species licences under my belt, to have progressed within Arbtech, and to potentially work on more conservation-based projects.
Personally, I hope to have my own place, run both a half and full marathon, and travel each year.
My biggest career goal is to be involved in the rewilding of British fauna.
Bison have just been released into the woods near my house and this has inspired me to become more involved with British wildlife and the continuation of its conservation.
Maddy joined Arbtech in July 2023.
