Isla Yarrow
The opportunity to gain industry experience as a new grad.
With degrees in the ecology field, I was looking for the chance to integrate my educational experience into the ecology industry, and the internship does just that.
In fact, it allows you to get a foot in the door, no matter your past experiences.
The thing I love most about Arbtech is the people I work with and the opportunity to learn new things every day.
Everyone is always on hand to offer advice and answer any questions, which enables me to grow as an ecologist.
I am usually spending time with my partner, friends and family.
I also take the chance to go for a swim or a nature walk whenever I can.
I love going on holiday and visiting different cities around the world.
My biggest tip to achieve the most in life is to make the most of every experience you get given, learn from mistakes, and use others around you to learn and grow.
I’ve not been to an official Arbtech social yet, but it has been nice to have regular meet-ups with other local grads/interns before BERS and over weekends, or even just working together at a coffee shop.
Anywhere!
I’m currently making my way through Europe, so I will have to choose another city from the bucket list.
Long term, I’d like to visit New Zealand and Canada.
I’d like to have progressed in my ecology career.
I hope to have gained experience in a wide range of surveys and have had the opportunity to work more with reptiles and amphibians.
Hopefully, my botany skills will have vastly improved by then too.
Personally, I hope to move into my own home with my partner and have some cats.
My main goal for the future revolves around gaining some protected species licences, travelling, and being happy in whatever I am doing.
I want to get back into sport – swimming and running especially – and maybe enter some races as motivation to stick to it.
I’d also like to get more involved with conservation work.
Isla joined Arbtech in October 2025.
